Secure Youth Treatment Facility (SYTF)

In September 2020, Senate Bill 823 was signed into law. The signing of this bill initiated the closure of the California Department of Rehabilitation Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). As a result, DJJ intake closed for most youth on July 1, 2021, and the Los Angeles County Probation Department became responsible for housing,  programming and treatment of young adults previously committed to DJJ. All post dispositioned young adults committed to DJJ are now housed under Secure Youth Treatment Facility (SYTF) within Los Angeles County Probation.

Secure Youth Treatment Facilities (SYTF) VISITATION

Family visitation a vital component of the rehabilitation process and is strongly encouraged by the Probation Department.  Through this process youth are provided an opportunity to engage in private and confidential conversations under the supervision of SYTF Staff.   Once a youth arrives at a SYTF facility, they will be requested to provide a list of relatives including mother, father, legal guardians and grandparents.  During the orientation process each youth is informed of the facility’s visitation schedules, rules and procedures, and is provided a Rules and Rights Handbook, that also stipulates visitation rules and procedures.
