Alex Nieto, Acting Deputy Director

Alex Nieto was recently promoted from Senior Probation Director to Acting Deputy Director for Adult Probation. He began his career with the Probation Department in 1989 as a Detention Services Officer at Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall, where he served for 1 ½ years. He was then promoted to Deputy Probation Officer (DPO) I at Camp Munz, a position he held for four years. In 1994, he advanced to DPO II at Intake Detention Control (IDC) for one year before transitioning to School-Based Supervision for another year.

His career continued at Camp Rockey for two years, followed by a two-year tenure as Acting Supervisor of the Performance Enhancement Audit Team (PEAT). In 2001, he was promoted to Supervising Detention Services Officer at Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall for six months before being promoted again to Supervising Deputy Probation Officer of the Independent Living Program, where he served for two years.

He then took the role of Special Assistant at Downey Headquarters for the Residential Treatment Bureau for two years before being transferred back to Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall as a Division Director and later as the Assistant Superintendent for one year. In 2006, he moved to Camp David Gonzales, where he remained for nine years.

Subsequently, Mr. Nieto was transferred to Central Juvenile Hall, serving as a Division Director for three years before being promoted to Superintendent, a position he held for 3 ½ years. His career then shifted to the Adult Bureau, where he served as the Senior Director over CORE – Region 2 for three years.
