BOARD OF STATE AND COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS APPROVE GRANT FOR LOS ANGELES COUNTY PROBATION MOBILE RESOURCE CENTERS PROGRAM
Los Angeles- The Board of State and Community Corrections approved a grant funding the Los Angeles County Probation Department’s Mobile Resource Centers program.
The State Budget Act of 2022 (Assembly Bill 178) established the Mobile Probation Service Centers Grant Program, which provides funding to assist probation departments in purchasing vehicles and equipment to operate mobile probation service centers.
The centers are designed to serve some of the Probation Department’s most vulnerable adult clients, including transient adult clients on Adult Felony Probation and Post-release Community Supervision (PRCS). The mobile centers help bring services to the community and those experiencing homelessness, mental health, and substance abuse issues that diminish their ability to succeed on probation without stable housing and supportive services.
In April 2021, the Department launched two (2) Mobile Resource Centers (vans). The Mobile Resource Centers are mobile offices that have allowed our probationers to meet with their probation officers in the community. These centers have also served as community meeting points for our mental health, substance abuse, and housing collaborative partners. To date, The Mobile Resource Centers have serviced nearly 1000 probationers.
Currently, these centers are deployed weekly throughout Los Angeles County, providing outreach, supervision services, and other necessary resources to our probationers who have difficulty reporting to a probation office.
The Department has been awarded $2.1 million to expand the program by purchasing more full-size High Roof Office Mobile Cargo Vans.
