Statement on Campus Vernon Kilpatrick Evacuation Due to Bryson Canyon Fire in Malibu

MALIBU — The Los Angeles County Probation Department safely evacuated 38 female and gender expansive youth from Campus Vernon Kilpatrick (CVK) this evening due to the Bryson Canyon Fire in Malibu. The decision to evacuate was made by the CVK Superintendent. The youths have arrived at Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall/SYTF in Sylmar.

We understand that an evacuation can be stressful for youth and their families. Staff are available to attend to the youth’s needs and provide support. Parents and legal guardians are being notified directly and will receive updates as circumstances change.
