Joseph Galvan is the newest Deputy Director of the Los Angeles County Probation Department, overseeing Internal Affairs operations. With 28 years of dedicated service in California law enforcement, he brings extensive experience in investigative and administrative oversight.
Mr. Galvan began his career in 1993 as an Investigator with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, later serving as a Supervising Investigator and Training Officer. In 2001, he joined the California Department of Justice as a Special Agent.
In 2005, he transitioned to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Office of Internal Affairs, where he handled criminal and administrative misconduct investigations, including use-of-force and discrimination cases. He rose through the ranks, becoming a Senior Special Agent in 2006 and a Special Agent in Charge in 2008, leading administrative and criminal investigations.
From 2008 to 2015, Mr. Galvan served as Chief of Field Operations, managing statewide investigative teams. In 2016, Governor Jerry Brown appointed him Deputy Director of CDCR’s Office of Internal Affairs and the Office of Civil Rights.
A graduate of the FBI National Academy, Mr. Galvan brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to his role at the Los Angeles County Probation Department.
