Campus Vernon Kilpatrick (CVK) was renamed the Secure Youth Treatment Facility (SYTF) as part of Los Angeles County’s juvenile justice reform efforts. This change occurred following the closure of traditional juvenile camps and the shift toward a more rehabilitative model under the LA Model. The transition began around 2021, aligning with California’s move to close state-run youth detention facilities and shift responsibility to local jurisdictions.
Newly updated, Campus Vernon Kilpatrick (CVK) is a state-of-the-art juvenile facility dedicated to rehabilitation, education, and personal growth for justice-involved youth and young adults. Located in Los Angeles County, CVK provides a structured environment that fosters positive youth and young adult development through academic programs, vocational training, and recreational activities.
As part of this transformation, CVK has implemented several dynamic programs aimed at promoting positive youth development, rehabilitation, and community reentry readiness. These programs reflect a holistic approach that includes education, fitness, life skills, and emotional wellness:
Current Programs at CVK:
- CVK Garden Bare – A garden-based learning initiative focused on teamwork, responsibility, and personal growth through nature.
- CVK Book Film Club – A creative literacy program encouraging youth to explore imagination and critical thinking through books and films.
- CVK Budgeting Program – Empowers our youth and young adults to save, spend, and manage points earned through program participation, fostering financial literacy and smart decision-making.
- CVK Barista Program – A job-readiness program where youth learn barista and customer service skills.
- CVK Weight Room Experience – A structured strength training and fitness program designed to build discipline, focus, and health.
