Frequently Asked Questions for Parents/Guardians

En Español

Q: Why is my child being moved from Los Padrinos?

A: The Los Angeles County Probation Department is implementing a court-ordered plan approved by Judge Michael Espinoza on May 16, 2025 to depopulate Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall and relocate youth to other facilities that better meet current safety, staffing, and care standards.

Q: Where is my child being moved to?
A: Your child will be moved to another juvenile facility within the County that is equipped to provide the same or better level of care, services, and education. You will be notified directly with the name and location of the new facility.

Q: Will my child be released?
A: Decisions on youth releases are made by their adjudicating court. While Probation may have a role in that decision, it is not a unilateral one.

Q: Will this move affect my child’s length of incarceration?
A: This move is solely to relocate youth to other facilities that better meet current safety, staffing, and care standards.

Q: Will I still be able to visit my child?
A: Yes. Visiting will resume as soon as possible at the new facility. Staff will provide updated visiting schedules or access information you may need.

Q: Will baby bonding visits still take place?
A: Yes. Baby bonding visits will resume as soon as possible at the new facility. Staff will provide updated visiting schedules or access information you may need to schedule baby bonding visits.

Q: How will I be informed of my child’s move and status?
A: You will be contacted directly by Probation staff with details of your child’s transfer and new facility contact information.

Q: Will this move affect my child’s services or court dates?
A: No. All services, including mental health, education, and court obligations, will continue without interruption.

Q: Who can I contact with questions?
A: Please email our Los Padrinos Youth and Family Liaison at LPFamilyLiaison@probation.lacounty.gov for assistance. You can also email general questions to LPTransition@probation.lacounty.gov. You can also contact the Department’s Ombudsman’s office at 877-822-3222.
