Weekly Update: APRIL 24, 2026

 

COURT HEARINGS

On April 24th, Chief Viera Rosa, Acting Chief Deputy Arcos, Deputy Director Roman and Senior Director Binion appeared in Judge Espinoza’s court to give an update on the Los Padrinos depopulation plan. The Judge asked about the movement of youth in Camp Kilpatrick and Dorothy Kirby Center, as well as community placements and supervision. The hearing lasted about two hours, and future dates will be scheduled soon.

 

CAMP AFFLERBAUGH CHIEFS DEFEAT CAMP ROCKEY SEAHAWKS IN ATLAS BOWL

On April 18th, the Atlas Bowl on April 18th brought the energy with a competitive showdown between the Camp Afflerbaugh Chiefs and the Camp Rockey Seahawks, with the Chiefs taking the win! The event drew an incredible turnout, with support from parents, the Director of the Probation Oversight Committee, Department of Mental Health, and Probation leadership and staff, including both Camp Directors Lavarreda, Beigh, and Villar, Assistant Director Lockhart, Superintendent Novak, the Contract Unit, and Ms. Ron. Most importantly, the youth from both teams showed outstanding spirit, teamwork, and sportsmanship, making this a win for everyone involved.

LACP SPECIAL OPERATIONS ENFORCEMENT COLLABORATED IN A MULT-AGENCY COMPLIANCE OPERATION.

In response to rising gang-related shootings, homicides, and retaliatory violence in the San Fernando Valley, LACP Special Enforcement Operations partnered with LAPD Mission Division Gang Enforcement Detail, the DA’s Office, LASD, Glendale PD, and Parole on a coordinated multi-agency compliance operation. The goal was to enhance public safety by identifying high-risk gang members and individuals on supervised release and conducting compliance checks. The operation included 250 personnel and 27 K9s, covering 126 locations. It resulted in 29 felony arrests, 5 misdemeanor arrests, 14 gang member arrests. 3 sex offender arrests, 2 suspects with robbery warrants, 3 firearms recovered. Of those arrested, 23 were on parole and 16 were on probation. This operation highlights the critical importance of collaboration across agencies to effectively enhance public safety and address complex community challenges.

CAMPUS KILPATRICK (CVK) VISITING

Visitation at Campus Vernon Kilpatrick is Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Only approved parents, legal guardians, and grandparents may visit. Legal guardians must show court verification. Baby bonding visits may be scheduled outside regular hours.

While parents may drive themselves, transportation support is available. Pick up locations are Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall and Dorothy Kirby Center. Approved visitors desiring the use of rideshare support must report to one of the two detention facilities by 11:00 a.m. on the day of CVK visitation. Minor children are not allowed on rideshare. All visitors are subject to search. No personal items may enter the facility. Anyone suspected of being under the influence will be denied entry.
