BENEFITS PACKAGE

Benefit Allowance – Los Angeles County provides an additional monthly allowance to “spend” on benefits, above the employee’s base pay.  If the total is not used on costs, the unused amount is added to your monthly salary as income:

 

Flexible Benefits Plans for Probation Department Peace Officers and their eligible dependents:

  • Medical – Kaiser HMO, Cigna Network HMO, or CAPE/Blue Shield POS
  • Dental – MetLife (Safeguard) HMO, Delta Care HMO, Delta Dental PPO
  • Medical Coverage Protection (Long Term Disability Health Insurance – 100% of medical premium) – available at $3/month
  • Spending Accounts
    – Health Care Spending Account – Tax-free spending account for out-of-pocket health care expenses
    – Dependent Care Spending Account – for eligible dependent care expenses
  • Basic Term Life insurance $5,000 – at no cost
  • Optional Group Term Life Insurance [employee can select up to 8x annual salary] – calculated based on age and salary – County pays 15% of monthly premiums
  • Dependent Term Life Insurance – available from $5,000 to $20,000
  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance – available from $10,000 to $250,000
  • Medical Coverage Protection (Long Term Disability Health Insurance – 100% of medical premium) – available at $3/month

  Robust Retirement Packages:

  • Los Angeles County Employee Retirement Association (LACERA) – Plan G Pension – members receive % of their salary and health care coverage based on age and accumulated service credit when the member retires
  • 457(b) Deferred-Compensation Retirement Plan – Empower – County will match employee contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to 4% of your earnings

  Generous Leave Benefits:

  • Paid sick time – 4.21 hours accrued per pay period
  • Paid vacation time – accrued per pay period based on years of service; 80 hours available after the first year of employment
  • Paid holidays – 13 paid holidays per year
