Office of Traffic Safety Awards $422,000.00 Grant to Los Angeles County Probation Department Adult Field Service Bureau to Supervise High-Risk DUI Offenders

LOS ANGELES, CA– Los Angeles County Probation Department announced today that it has received a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to monitor high-risk individuals with multiple DUI convictions. The grant program runs through September 2025.

“This grant funding will allow us to address the complex issues surrounding individuals who have multiple DUIs by providing vital resources and guidance to break the cycle of alcohol-related offenses,” Los Angeles County Probation Department Chief Probation Officer Guillermo Viera Rosa said. “This program is designed to closely monitor and support individuals, helping to reduce repeat offenses and create safer roads by reducing the incidences of impaired driving.”

Funding will go toward:

  • Check-ins with probationers to ensure they follow court-ordered terms of their probation.
  • Collaboration with court officials and the prosecutor’s office to establish probation orders.
  • Compliance with court-ordered terms of probation.
  • Check-ins with probationers in the office and field.
  • Alcohol testing.

The grant will also pay for warrant operations targeting probation violations and/or DUI suspects who do not appear in court, alcohol testing, officer training in Standard Field Sobriety Testing (SFST), distribution of DUI “Be on the Lookout” (BOLO) alerts and collaborating with courts and prosecutors to establish probation orders.

“Intensive supervision programs are essential in reducing the harmful impact of DUI offenses,” said OTS Director Barbara Rooney. “This is one important measure to help prevent the tragic consequences of impaired driving and create safer roads for everyone.”

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
