HIP HOP ARTIST COMMON AND FREE TO DREAM PARTNER WITH LACP TO LAUNCE “REBIRTH OF SOUND” PROGRAM AT BARRY J. NIDORF
Legendary Hip Hop MC Common and Free to Dream partnered with the Los Angeles County Probation Department for the soft launch of the first cohort of the “Rebirth of Sound” program.
This ongoing program brings Barry J. Nidorf youth together twice a week with music industry professionals to learn instrumentation, music production, audio engineering, songwriting, rapping, singing, and more.
“God blessed me through writing and poetry. It is one of the greatest gifts God has given us,” shared Common. “Art is powerful. You never know where this can take you.”
“Free to Dream shifts youth justice from punishment to investment, prioritizing healing, mentorship, and opportunity so every young person can dream beyond their circumstances,” shared Probation Director Carr.
Youth received writing journals, shared their goals for the program, and explored hands-on demos of instruments and equipment. Common also delivered an inspiring freestyle, weaving in themes and ideas directly from the youth.
The energy was real, the engagement was strong, and the cohort is excited for what’s ahead. A state-of-the-art recording studio is currently being built at Barry J. Nidorf and will be unveiled later this year.
PROBATION ROUNDUPS
LACP Special Enforcement Operations, with CDCR Parole, Lancaster PD, & the FBI, conducted compliance checks at a residence housing registered sex offenders. A probationer/parolee was arrested after a search uncovered 5,000 images & videos of child sexual abuse material on his devices.
